The Minister of Public Service, Hon. Francis Sade MP, is currently in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, attending the 2025 United Nations Public Service Forum. The event runs from June 23rd to 25th.
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Government of Uzbekistan are working together to host this forum. The main topic for this year’s forum is “Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future”.
Important people like ministers, high-ranking public officials, UN experts, and development partners are at this meeting. They are there to talk about new ways and good examples of how to improve public services to help reach the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During a discussion with other ministers, Hon. Sade explained that improving public service is a top goal for the Solomon Islands Government. This is part of the Government for National Unity and Transformation’s (GNUT) National Policy Agenda.
He also mentioned that the Solomon Islands has started using “forward-thinking strategies to foster and sustain innovation within the public sector”. One of these is the Digital Transformation and Innovation Strategy, which aims to:
• Use technology to make public services better.
• Make government more open and responsible through digital tools.
• Build back public trust by making it easier for citizens to interact with the government.
The GNUT Government believes that “a responsive and citizen-centered public sector is fundamental to achieving sustainable development”. Hon. Sade emphasized that “Our efforts in digital innovation are crucial in ensuring services reach all Solomon Islanders, especially in remote and underserved communities”.
The Minister is joined by Mr. Luke Cheka, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service, and Mr. Ian Rakafia, the Deputy Secretary Governance and Performance Management.
The Solomon Islands’ involvement in this forum shows GNUT’s dedication to “learning from global best practices and accelerating progress toward the SDGs through innovation, inclusive governance, and improved service delivery”.
