AUSTRALIA has officially handed over a new ablution block at Betikama Adventist School in Northwest Guadalcanal, funded under the Solomon Islands – Australia Community Partnerships.
Better ablutions lead to better attendance, especially for girls, helping students focus on their studies.
Betikama Adventist School received SBD 300,000 in funding for building materials for the new toilet block for use by students and staff at the school.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, said safe access to ablution blocks at schools is critical to support student.
“Australia is committed to supporting communities across Solomon Islands to deliver infrastructure projects like this one at Betikama School in Northwest Guadalcanal,” High Commissioner Hilton said.
“We’re also supporting Solomon Islands businesses directly by buying their hardware materials for these projects.”
In 2024, Australia funded a record 100 community projects across all provinces of Solomon Islands, representing more than SBD 23 million in direct funding to local businesses.
Solomon Islands – Australia Community Partnerships support community-led projects that improve living standards. These are small projects with a big impact on Solomon Islanders.
