The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Honourable James Marape, MP, hosted an official dinner (last night) in Port Moresby marking the official visit of the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Honourable Jeremiah Manele, MP.

Welcoming Prime Minister Manele, Prime Minister Marape emphasized the enduring ‘brotherly ties’ between Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, reflecting a deep bond rooted in shared history, culture, and Melanesian solidarity. He noted that this close relationship continues to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including trade, security, and development. The Prime Minister reaffirm PNG’s dedication to maintaining strong bilateral and people-to-people connection with Solomon Islands.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Manele expressed deep appreciation for the generous hospitality extended by Prime Minister Marape, his government, and the people of Papua New Guinea. He emphasized that the relationship between the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea is rooted in long-standing ties of respect, solidarity, and shared values.

Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea are not merely neighbours by geography, but are bound by shared history and culture, Prime Minister Manele stated.

He acknowledged the strength and maturity of the bilateral relationship and noted that both nations continue to explore new avenues to broaden and deepen cooperation across various sectors. Prime Minister Manele highlighted ongoing and future priorities, including collaboration on security, politics, trade and investment, education, immigration, border cooperation, sports, people-to-people connections, and regional development.

PM Manele further noted that both countries face common challenges and are united in their determination to address them. He reaffirmed his confidence that the partnership will continue to grow stronger as both nations chart new paths together.
