24 students were awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Solomon Islands campus for their outstanding academic performance.

The official handover ceremony was held today at the USP Solomon Islands Honiara campus and marked the first time this prestigious scholarship was presented locally — a milestone in the growing friendship between the People’s Republic of China and Solomon Islands.

The 24 students are now in the process of completing their registration and preparing for the new academic term — inspired and supported to reach new heights in their education. The Chinese Ambassador Scholarship is part of ongoing efforts to support educational development and strengthen ties between China and Solomon Islands.

“This is the first time that the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship has been delivered at USP Solomon Islands,” said His Excellency Cai Weiming, Ambassador of China to Solomon Islands. “The event today is not only a testament to the friendship between China and Solomon Islands but also another embodiment of the sustainable development of our educational cooperation.”

His Excellency Cai Weiming delivered his speech at the ceremony.

Ambassador Cai congratulated the scholarship recipients and encouraged them to dream big.

“Young people are full of energy and dreams. Your spirit determines the future of the nation,” he said. “We hope this scholarship helps you overcome financial burdens so you can focus fully on your learning — and grow to become the backbone of your country’s future.”

The scholarship, which provides financial support directly into the students’ accounts, aims to reduce education costs and inspire the next generation of leaders in Solomon Islands.

Acting Director of USP Solomon Islands, Mr Clayton Kuma, also congratulated the recipients during the event.

Mr. Clayton Kuma, Acting Director of USP Solomon Islands, delivered a speech at the event.

Mr Kuma also expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for investing in Solomon Islands’ youth.

“Thank you for your generous support and belief in our students,” he said.
