SOLOMON Power’s asset base is now $2 billion, one of the largest in the country, said Muriel Dakamae, Director of Solomon Islands Electricity Trading as Solomon Power.
Dakamae announced that Solomon Power has expanded its operations to all provincial headquarters except for Tingoa in the Rennell and Bellona Province, marking Line Mechanic Day 2024.
“For more than 10- years, we have been compliant with our reporting obligations under the State-Owned Enterprises Act, being one of the SOE’s to have consistently obtained an ’unqualified audit opinion’ on our financial statement in a timely manner.
“We are currently operating under our corporate strategy 2022-2027, which includes increasing customer accessibility to electricity, increasing renewable energy share of the generation mix, and reducing our dependency on fossil fuels,’’ the Director of Solomon Power.
According to Dakamae, Solomon Power’s ultimate strategy to deliver affordable, clean energy to the Solomon Islands is to invest in renewable energy.
“Ultimately, our strategy to deliver affordable, clean energy to our customers is to invest in renewable energy, and that includes the Tina River Hydropower Development Project. On this note, I wish to thank various stakeholders who have supported us, including the Solomon Islands government,’’ she said.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Martin Sam of Solomon Power has highlighted Line Mechanic Day as a very auspicious time for the organization’s Distribution and Transmission Department.
“The day is designated to show appreciation to the line mechanics who ensure that power is supplied uninterrupted to our homes and offices. Currently, there are 85 staff that make up the Distribution and Transmission Department, including two females.
“This includes engineers, supervisors, trainee line mechanics, apprentices, and contracted staff.
“Solomon Power has seen the importance of their work and has and will continue to invest in them through training and equipment to aid them in carrying out their duties,’’ said Sam when marking the Line Mechanic Day 2024.
