The National Government is pleased to announce that a bipartisan task force has been established to undertake a thorough review of the Constituent Assembly Sitting Bill 2024.

This important task force is composed of a diverse group of experts from various sectors, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Ministry of Provincial Government, the Parliamentary Opposition, the Independent Group in Parliament and the Attorney General’s Chamber.

The task force yesterday concluded a three-day comprehensive legislative review of the bill, focusing on its provisions and the potential impact on the country’s governance structure.

Broadly, this collaborative effort reflects the commitment of all parties involved to engage in a constructive and inclusive dialogue aimed at strengthening the bill but more importantly, the democratic process and the rule of law in the Solomon Islands.

The task force will this week prepare a comprehensive report summarizing its findings and recommendations. The taskforce will also solicit relevant advice from the Attorney-General Chambers to ensure recommended policy option (s) are legally sound before the report is finally submitted to the Cabinet for further deliberation and to determine the next steps in the legislative process.

It is noteworthy that the Constituent Assembly Sitting Bill 2024 was previously defeated in Parliament in 2024. However, this review process highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing national issues with a unified approach and ensuring that all voices are heard in the decision-making process.

The Solomon Islands Government remains dedicated to working with all stakeholders to ensure that any proposed amendments to the Constitution or related legislation reflect the best interests of the people and contribute to the continued development and stability of the nation.
