CHAIRMAN of the Haraina community House of Chiefs on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa province is calling on the SIRDP C1 coordinator to reconsider completing the failed Taheramo clinic maternity building project.
Chief Douglas Teaitala made this call to the Solomon Islands Rural Development Program C1 coordinator during the handing over ceremony of the Haraina Kindy staff house project on Monday 18th October 2021.
Chief Douglas says that whilst it is a great achievement for the people of Haraina on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa province to celebrate the handing over ceremony of the completed staff house project, his people also deserve an explanation to what has happened with the Taheramo clinic maternity building SIRDP funded project which is Haraina community first funded project under the cycle four of the SIRDP way back in 2014.
“it is good that the Two senior officers from the SIRDP team are both here with us to take note of this concern of ours so that you can feed us with the informations we need to know about our incomplete maternity project”, chief Teaitala said.
In her response to the call made by Chief Teaitala, SIRDP C1 coordinator Ms. Freda Siwainao said that the reason for the failure of the Taheramo clinic maternity building project is due to mismanagement of the old Provincial Support Unit (PSU) in Kirakira during the course of the implementation of the Taheramo clinic maternity building SIRDP funded project.
“what I do know about the Taheramo clinic maternity building is that it is due to mismanagement issues of those who were at the SIRDP office at Kirakira but with the concern raised, I will see our program manager so that we can discuss this”, Ms. Siwainao says.
After the handing over ceremony, Ms. Siwainao then gathered together all the women who were present on the occasion to get feedback from them about the Maternity building project.
After listening to the Haraina women’s concerns and grievances of the need of a new maternity clinic building, Ms. Siwainao then assured them that she will definitely try her best to discuss this matter with the SIRDP program manager in Honiara even though the program will close by the end of this year.
“I assure you that I will see the SIRDP program manager about this and present your grievances So that we can see what we can do in the remaining months before the closure of the program, that is by the end of this year,” she says.
She assured the women of Haraina that she will do her best to ensure that the failed Taheramo clinic maternity building SIRDP funded project to be re-assessed so that It can be included in the SIRDP additional funding for 2021.
