“The parade will be led by the RSIPF Brass Band & Traffic Escort along with all maritime school instructors, officers, and marine engineers from the marine shipping industry,” Dr. Teorae said.

June 25th of each year is recognized worldwide as the “Day of the Seafarer” which recognizes the invaluable contribution of seafarers to international trade and its important role in the world economy.

He said that in the Solomon Islands, this would be the first time to celebrate the International Day of the Seafarers in that manner.

“The day will be a big day for the marine shipping industry so we will be having three components in our big event that will attract the attention of the public which are 1. The parade and flag raising, 2. Laying of wreaths at the jetty and 3. The big show event,” he described.

He said that the big show is when the SIMS and all in port or at anchor sound their bells, and whistles, firing parachute rockets, orange smoke floats, and hand flares while maneuvering at sea.

Dr. Teorae Kabure also wants to remind the public to be aware and not to panic of any loud sounds which will take place on Monday whilst the event is taking place.
