Education a Fundamental Pillar of Our Country: PM

EDUCATON is a fundamental pillar of our country, past, present and into the future.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare highlighted in his speech during St Joseph’s Catholic National Secondary 75th Anniversary, Tenaru on Thursday this week.

The Prime Minister said the country’s education system will continue to play a significant role in preparing Solomon Islanders to meet the myriad of development challenges and changes that our country faces.

He said in the past 40 plus years, our country with the support of our successive governments, churches, communities and development partners had made huge investments in our education system.

“We have built many schools, achieved impressive growth in enrolment rates, increased number of qualified and trained teachers, and provided curriculum materials that both teachers and students can use to teach and learn,” he said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said our education system has enabled our country to educate and train the human resource of our country for the workforce.

He said he has observed that young people in the country today has more educational opportunities and have attained higher education levels than their parents.

The Prime Minister said this trend of demand for education will continue to rise in the years to come and the government recognizes the need to support schools to continue to provide access to quality education for students.

Prime Minister Sogavare was the guest of honor at the schools 75th Anniversary celebrations on Thursday this week, which attracted hundreds of both current and former students.

The theme for the celebrations is“Recalling our Past, Forming Our Today, and Shaping Our Future.
