IN the heart of the Central Region of Makira/Ulawa Province, a son of the province has emerged with a mission to serve his people, uplift their lives, and guide his constituency towards a brighter future.
Born and raised in Central Makira Constituency, the candidate, Henson Makoani, expressed a deep-rooted commitment to addressing the social, economic, and development challenges faced by his fellow constituents if elected into parliament this coming April.
With qualifications in engineering, teaching, project management, procurement, and business administration, coupled with years of hands-on experience in various sectors, he believes he is uniquely positioned to address the diverse needs of Central Makira effectively.
Makoani also claimed to have over the years been actively involved in various development projects, including school construction and employment creation initiatives within the Central Makira, aimed at benefiting the constituency.
He emphasized his strong connection and commitment to Central Makira, citing his understanding of its needs and aspirations. He pledged to prioritize health services, infrastructure development, and economic opportunities if elected, promising to work tirelessly to represent the interests of the constituency in the National Parliament.
Makoani has joined the Matthew Wale-led Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP), which will bring an interesting new facet to the political scene in front of the April 17, 2024, elections.
He told Sunday Islands that he has a strong desire to solve the unresolved issues faced by rural residents in Central Makira, citing issues of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment.
“Having worked in education, government service, business, and community, I feel I have the knowledge, expertise, and drive to bring about positive change to our constituency.
“My diverse background, coupled with a deep understanding of our culture and values, equips me with the tools to navigate the complexities of governance and champion the causes that matter most to our constituency.
“I envision a Central Makira where every individual has access to quality healthcare, where roads and bridges connect communities, and where economic avenues flourish,” he revealed.
