Fiji is in mourning following the passing of former President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on Thursday evening, an event that has drawn widespread tributes across the nation.

Ratu Epeli, a former Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, served as the President of Fiji from 2009 to 2015. He later returned to public service as the Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji from 2019 to 2022. His extensive career in public service also included significant roles such as Deputy Prime Minister and Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2001 and 2006. He was widely respected as a seasoned diplomat and a prominent national leader.
Today marks the State Funeral service, scheduled and took place at Albert Park at 8:30 am. This followed by a procession through Suva to Bau Island, where Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will be laid to rest in the sacred burial ground, Sau Tabu.
