Guadalcanal Province has made history as the first province in the Solomon Islands to officially sign an agency agreement with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD).
The agreement, launched at a ceremony held yesterday at the Honiara Hotel, marks a new chapter in the country’s efforts to reform its education system. The event drew educators, government officials, and community leaders, all celebrating what many called a “milestone moment” for education in the Solomon Islands.
The Honorable Premier of Guadalcanal Province, Hon. Willie Atu, proudly highlighted the significance of this achievement in his speech, describing it as a major step forward in putting education at the heart of provincial development.

“We proudly stand here today as the first province to officially sign this Agency Agreement, demonstrating the unwavering commitment to the spirit and intent of the new education reforms,” Premier Atu said.
He stressed the importance of education in shaping the future of young people and the nation.
“We believe that education is the foundation of our children’s future and the most important investment we can make in our communities,” he added.
According to Premier Atu, the agreement reinforces Guadalcanal Province’s commitment to work hand-in-hand with national authorities to ensure every child has access to quality education. The agreement is rooted in the principles of inclusion, relevance, and accountability.
He also used the opportunity to urge other provinces to step forward and join the movement for stronger education systems across the nation.
“As we celebrate this partnership today, I call on all other provinces to follow suit and let us stand united with MEHRD and MPGIS in delivering the goals of the Education Act 2023,” said Hon. Atu.
“Let us share the responsibility for our children’s education, their future, and the future of our nation.”
