Nine local journalists in Honiara completed a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) program at the Media Association Solomon Islands (MASI) conference room yesterday.

MASI president Ofani Eremae said the program aims to develop MASI’s human resources and build a stronger future for journalism in the Solomon Islands. “The journalists who participated are now trained to be facilitators. They can pass on the skills they learned to their colleagues across the country,” he said.

According to Ofani Eremae, president of MASI, the program’s goals are to strengthen journalism in the Solomon Islands and enhance MASI’s human resources.

During the three days, participants learned fundamental journalism skills, as well as the rules and ethics of reporting. These lessons are considered essential for responsible news coverage.

The training also focused on preparing participants to become trainers themselves. They will now lead courses based on the Foundation of Journalism program, helping to improve the skills of other journalists, support ongoing professional development, and empower reporters in their work.

Rita Narayan, facilitator and PACMAS team leader, said the course is designed for journalism trainers. “This training is not only about learning new skills but also about personal growth and understanding our roles within our organizations,” she said.

Mr. Eremae thanked ABC, PACMAS, and the Australian High Commission in the Solomon Islands for their support. “Their collaboration made this training possible and successful for our local journalists,” he added.
