CENTRAL Islands Province (CIP) is now into a four days lockdown period starting this evening at 6:00pm.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for CIP Superintendent David Soakai confirming the lockdown explain that they are trying to control the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19) throughout the province since registering its first 17 positive cases as announced early this week.

Call is now made by PPC Soakai to all communities in the province to work and help each other so that they can fight together against the virus. Also to prepare their families as they all know that Covid-19 is now amongst them.

“There is no other means but we have to fight through now. It is inevitable for us to avoid it as it has already arrived at our shores. We have to have the courage and move forward from here,” said Soakai.

“And, I call to our people in the province to not discriminate anyone considering Covid-19 in the province so that we stand together for our betterment in looking after each other.”

On the current Covid-19 positive cases in the province, PPC Soakai explains that they are also working in how to manage the situation.

“CIP is a small province and the situation happened fast catching us unprepared a bit, but slowly we are trying to manage the situation. There might be some areas we are not yet able to assist the 17 positive cases with, but whatever we can provide for them at this point of time is the best what the province can do for them,” said Soakai.

The lockdown period at CIP will be lifted on Sunday 6:00pm.
