Hundreds of Malaitans gathered at DC Park in Central Guadalcanal to celebrate the 42nd Second Appointed Day Anniversary, marking over four decades of provincial recognition for Malaita.
With the theme “Guided by Faith, Rooted in Culture and United for Change,” the celebration called for reflection, cultural pride, and a renewed vision for the future.
The three-day event, which began on August 13 and will conclude on Saturday, August 15, features traditional dances, cultural performances, food displays, and community market stalls showcasing Malaitan arts and crafts.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Chairman of the Honiara-based Malaitan Redley Committee, Mr. Raramo, expressed deep gratitude to past leaders who played a role in shaping the province.

“I would like to say thank you to the leaders of the past who have led the province, to the premiers, and to those who have contributed to the development of our beloved Malaita province,” he said.
Mr. Raramo also reflected on the importance of this year’s theme, saying it holds powerful meaning in today’s rapidly changing world.
“The theme is important at this time, when policies are influenced by competing ideologies and moral values are shifting fast. In this digital age, where truth and falsehood can travel at lightning speed, we must stay rooted in our faith and culture,” he said.
Families, youth groups, and community leaders turned up in numbers, many dressed in traditional attire, as a way to honor their heritage and celebrate their identity.
“We’re proud to be here today. It’s a time to remember who we are as Malaitans,” said Sarah Maefalia, a Honiara-based youth leader. “Our culture keeps us strong, and events like this remind us of our roots.”
