Manele Congratulates New Coalition after Losing No-Confidence Vote in Solomon Islands

Outgoing Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele congratulated the new coalition after losing a motion of no confidence in Parliament.

Outgoing Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele congratulated the new coalition after losing a motion of no confidence in Parliament.

He accepted the result after the vote ended 26 to 22, with two members absent, and said he respects the decision of the House.

Speaking on 7 April, Ousted Manele said: “I congratulate the other side for winning the motion and let me take this opportunity on behalf of Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) to wish the New Coalition whomever the Prime Minter will be and his Cabinet Ministers, they will continue to deliver for the good of our people and the Country.

“We have a beautiful country and it is important that both sides of the house continue to work together, and deliver services, for our good people going forward.

“It’s only 50 of us in this house, I hope as Leaders we will continue to work together for the betterment of our beloved country”

Manele then further applaud his GNUT government for all of their valuable contributions rendered during the last two years of his Leadership.

“I sincerely want to thank the members of the GNUT, the Ministers and back benchers. You have been with me for the last seven weeks and also within the last two years, I truly value your contributions that you’ve have rendered to our people, not forgetting our public servants for the service you continued to rendered to our people and for our country.”

On that same note he also acknowledge the Speaker, Clerk and the staff of the National Parliament for their hard work in always resourcefully facilitating of the Business matters of the House. “I also like to express my appreciation to the Speaker and the Clerk of the Parliament for presiding over today’s, preceding and procedural advice of the debate of the motion.

“Thank you Speaker, thank clerk and thank you to all chairman and the members of the bills committee for all your abundantly duties”

He concluded: “And to my colleague leaders, thank you for all the support you have given and shown to me during the last two years of my Prime Ministership. I appreciated and thank you all.”

Parliament is expected to elect a new Prime Minister on 15 May following the removal of former Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele.
