DIRECTOR School Service of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), Mrs. Jullian Feni Lilo, has congratulated the graduands of Waimapuru National Secondary School who have excelled in their academic performance this year.
She congratulates the 299 graduands during the school’s graduation ceremony held on Thursday 17th October 2024 in Makira/Ulawa province.
“Let me congratulate you for showing your worth in terms of academic performance – you have all excelled in your academic performance for this academic year, irrespective of the fact that you may get a prize this time around or not.
“You have done your part to achieve the level of performance in your academic subjects and leadership. Your fine achievements are testimony to your dedication and commitment,” she told the graduands.
Mrs. Lilo also encouraged those who were unable to receive prizes; she said that this is not the end of their learning journey, but it should be an opportunity for them to reflect on their academic performance and build on their strengths to excel through education and fulfill their dreams.
Reflecting on the school’s graduation theme “Excellence through Education for a Transformative Society”, she said the theme is relevant to the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) and the Ministry’s transformation agenda.
GNUT has adopted the slogan of transformation in its policy statement while the ministry has commenced its education transformation agenda through the passing of the new Education Act (2023).
She expressed that the Education Act regards education as a shared responsibility where all key stakeholders have a responsibility to contribute to the quality education of our children.
She recalls that Waimapuru NNS since its inception in 1985 had transformed many students who are now become leaders in various professions and have contributed to nation building.
She said Waimapuru NSS as the state’s own school has set a foundation for many students, past and present, to learn from each other’s cultures, values and live in peace and harmony with each other.
Mrs. Lilo adds that transformation through education is not easy. It requires discipline, commitment and dedication.
“To transform our society through education means – our work must be inclusive, safe, healthy and motivating to learn new knowledge and develop skills so that we can apply them to solve problems we face in our daily lives.
She further expressed that Waimapuru NSS has a wonderful learning environment, where students and teachers around the country come together – where space and time and human integration all come together – blended with our rich cultural diversity.
She said the Ministry, in support of the transformation, will continue to support the school.
She assured the school that the ministry would secure some funds in its budget to commence the renovation of the school infrastructure to improve students’ welfare and health to achieve higher academic performance.
Waimapuru NSS with the motto “Train a Youth, Build a Nation” has achieved top results in subjects and leadership and deserves to be awarded with prizes.
This year, the form six Science Dux Award was awarded to Nunu Jordan while form six Arts dux was awarded to Rahua Damaris.
For form seven, the Pure Arts Award was awarded to Kitysyna Charles while the Business Arts was awarded to Judith Tamana.
The other top Awards were awarded to Hivu Gina Maxine (Form 1), Iamae McMillan (Form 2), Quasiki Henry Junior (Form 3), Inina Jean Marolyn (form 4) and Wakohe Isom Junior (form 5).
