National Oversight Committee (NOC) of Solomon Islands will look at all the options for the recommendation paper to reopen schools before it goes up to Cabinet to make its final decision.

And, it may take a week or two any decision is made, according to the Secretary to Prime Minister (SPM) and Vice Chairman of NOC Dr Jimmy Rodgers.

During early this week’s COVID-19 TalkBack Show, Dr Rodgers talking on the issue of schools reopening, said the recommendation paper presented by the Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) is now being looked into.

“The Oversight Committee is looking into it now to examine the options that are available as to school reopening, when and what are the conditions that need to be complied with,” said Rodgers.

“Once the Oversight Committee deliberate on that, of course, it will have to go to Cabinet so that a decision can be made.

“So that is still going to take maybe a week or two for us to look at all the options before it goes up to Cabinet to make its decision.”

It is understood that the academic year for 2022 was supposed to start on January 24, however, there is a delay due to the current situation of Coronavirus (Covid-19) being experienced in the country.
