PRIME Minister Honorable Jeremiah Manele MP has received a courtesy call from the board members of the Youth Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI) this week- 25th September 2024.
The YECSI board was led by its Chairman Limahl Totogi, as well as staff members of the YECSI office.
The YECSI board used the opportunity to provide update to the Prime Minister on the work of YECSI, its positive contributions to developing young entrepreneurs and the challenges YECSI has faced.
Totogi expressed that YECSI has come a long way since its inception in 2018, and amongst the core of its mandates is to engage and develop young entrepreneurs both in the formal and informal sectors.
According to Totogi, challenges faced by YECSI includes accessing markets for young entrepreneurs, access to financial assistances, and financial literacy.
The YECSI board chairman also expressed the need for government ministries to work collaboratively with YECSI in developing young entrepreneurs.
Prime Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele in response, praised the work of the Youth Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI) and describing it as an important initiative to mold young entrepreneurs in our society.
PM Manele further stated that YECSI is a homegrown solution to the bulging youth population in the country.
The Prime Minister assured the YECSI board and office staff members that the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) will coordinate with relevant government ministries to ensure challenges experienced by YECSI are addressed appropriately.
Some of the programs and activities formulated and implemented by YECSI includes mentorship, infor session, incubation program, and other specific activities aiming to equip young entrepreneurs to become successful. Also in the pipeline is a program to train young graduates to become job creators.
YECSI will host the YECSI Awards Night next year and one of its highlights will be the Prime Minister’s Award.
