Honiara, Monday 25 August 2025 – In a show of growing international partnerships, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, MP, today received two major vehicle donations from China and Australia to support the upcoming 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara from 8–12 September 2025.

At the Mid Transport Pool, Prime Minister Manele accepted 27 brand-new 4WD SUVs from the Government of the People’s Republic of China. The vehicles – Tank 500HEVs – are part of a 40-vehicle fleet to transport Pacific leaders and dignitaries during the high-level regional gathering.

“These vehicles will ensure safe, reliable, and comfortable transport for all Pacific Forum Leaders and delegates,” the Prime Minister said during the handover. “They will also serve as a lasting asset for the country, helping government ministries and provinces long after the Forum ends.”

He praised China’s generous support, calling it “a symbol of our strong and enduring partnership,” and thanked local ministries and agencies for coordinating the complex logistics behind the delivery.

Later the same day, at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Headquarters in Rove, Prime Minister Manele also received the first 22 of 61 new police vehicles from the Government of Australia.

Describing it as “the single largest transfer of vehicles to the RSIPF since the RAMSI era,” the Prime Minister said the fleet – which includes Ford Rangers, Nissan Navaras, and Toyota Hiluxes – would greatly boost the RSIPF’s mobility and readiness for the Forum.

“These vehicles will enable the RSIPF to provide unparalleled security during the Forum and leave a lasting legacy of a strengthened and mobile police force,” he said.

The Australian-funded fleet, worth AUD$5.2 million (SBD$28.6 million), was supplied by local car dealers and fitted with police equipment by Solomon Islands technicians – creating jobs and supporting local businesses.

Australia’s total support for the Forum, including road upgrades, air conditioning for venues, and cybersecurity, exceeds SBD$100 million.

“The generosity of our partners speaks volumes about the trust and solidarity we share,” the Prime Minister said. “With the dedication of our people and the support of our friends, I am confident we will deliver a safe, successful, and well-organised Pacific Islands Forum.”
