Prime Minister Hon Jeremiah Manele in today’s media press conference ahead of the Parliament sitting scheduled for tomorrow, 7 May 2026 said the conference was held for three clear reasons.
“First to formally update the nation on his government’s compliance with the Court of Appeal ruling,” the Prime Minister said.
“Second to outline the transition of this process to the National Parliament.”
“And third to provide direct assurance to citizens, schools and business houses moving forward together.”
The Prime Minister said the aim is to ensure every Solomon Islander receives accurate information directly from his office so peace and stability are maintained.
“As I have consistently emphasized, my government remains firmly committed to upholding the rule of law and respecting the independence of our judicial institutions,” he said.
He confirmed that all legal requirements and orders relating to the convening of Parliament have been fully complied with.
He said that having discharged these responsibilities, the matter now rests with the Speaker and the National Parliament.
“My executive responsibilities have been fulfilled, and the matter now proceeds through Parliament as directed by the Court,” he added.
The Prime Minister said that during this period, differing views are natural in a democracy and must not divide the nation.
He said people should think deeply about their actions and how they affect families, children and elders.
“It is important that we reflect honestly on our journey as a country,” he said.
He noted that in the past, political uncertainty has disrupted lives and affected women’s livelihoods and children’s education.
“It humbles me to acknowledge the worry these political developments can bring into your homes,” he said.
“I want to offer a sincere apology to families that have felt unsettled during this time.”
“It is never our intention for the democratic process to cause stress or fear,” he added.
He said he thanked the people for their stability, and also thanked business houses and churches for their support and prayers.
The Prime Minister said government priority is safety and normal daily life for all citizens.
The Prime Minister called for unity and calm as the nation prepares for Parliament to sit on 7 May 2026.
He said this moment is important for the country and urged everyone to stay calm and trust democratic processes.
He reminded citizens that differences of opinion are part of democracy but should not lead to violence or fear.
He said Parliament will now carry forward its constitutional role in line with the Court of Appeal decision.
He encouraged citizens to continue their daily activities with confidence and to support peace in their communities.
He said the government remains committed to transparency, stability and unity, and looks forward to a peaceful sitting of Parliament tomorrow.
He thanked all Solomon Islanders for patience, understanding and cooperation during this important national period.
