Speaking at the opening of the workshop on Wednesday 4th March, Permanent Secretary Dr. Franco Rodie emphasized the critical role of teacher effectiveness in enhancing student learning in the country.

He said over the past few years MEHRD have achieved positive developments in its education system in alignment with the National Education Action Plan (2022-2026), the Education Strategy Framework 2016-2030 and the Solomon Islands Partnership Compact 2023-2027.

He said these frameworks present challenges for the Ministry and key stakeholders to rethink and reflects on the support for teaching and learning.

“Teacher professional development must be a permanent and structure aspect of the education system, rather than a one-off event,” Dr. Franco said.

He noted the findings from a comprehensive assessment across multiple schools, urging the participants to reflect on their own profession development experiences and the support needed for teachers to thrive.

He concludes with a call for collective commitment to invest in teachers transform education in the Solomon Islands.

Supported by the Global Partnership for Education System Transformation Grant and implemented alongside UNICEF, this initiative aims to shift teacher professional development from occasional events into an embedded, continuous, and contextually relevant system.
