THE Guadalcanal Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recommended key areas in its 2024/2025 Revised Budget Estimates, also known as the ‘Guadalcanal Province Revised Appropriation Ordinance 2024′ during today’s Assembly Meeting.
The 2024/2025 Revised Appropriation Ordinance totals $55,119,397, with $21,694,165 allocated for Recurrent Expenditure and $33,425,232 for Capital Expenditure.
While presenting the PAC Report on the floor of the Assembly today, the Chairman of PAC, Hon. Jerold Musi, highlighted the key areas within the first eight months of the Atu Government.
He commended the Atu Government for its performance since taking office and for the continued delivery of key services. However, he cautioned the Executive Government to consider several key areas to further strengthen governance.
The areas highlighted by the PAC Chairman include budget risk analysis, participatory budgeting processes and coordination, debt servicing management, and human resource management (Manpower Budget).
Hon. Jerold Musi stated that these areas are important and urged the Atu Government to take them into account.
In response, Honorable Premier Willie Atu acknowledged the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee for the comprehensive report and the recommendations. He stated that his Executive will take the recommendations into account in the next three months, with full improvements planned for the Fiscal Year 2025/2026.
In addition to the Premier’s statements, the Minister for Finance, Hon. John Stewart, also acknowledged the PAC for its recommendations. He stated that despite the challenges, the Treasury and Finance Division would do its best to improve in the highlighted areas.
The Assembly later voted and passed the PAC report on the Guadalcanal Province Revised Appropriation Ordinance 2024.
