WORK on the facelift of Kukum Market has now been completed and the opening is anticipated to be held tomorrow December 2.

The Kukum Market refurbishment project is Co-Funded by Solomon Islands Government under the COVID-19 Livelihood Support Program implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock, the Honiara City Council and the World Bank through the CAUSE Project.

According to a resolution passed in the first quarter of 2020 by the Honiara City Council, Kukum Market is being converted and developed as a General Market to supplement crop, vegetables and fruit supplies at the Honiara Central Market.

Kukum market was earlier designated for the sale of betel nuts by the Resolution of the Full Council from a previous HCC Government. However, that was revoked and the recent HCC government in 2020 arranged for the market to be developed into a second general market to supplement the Central Market.
