OFFICERS of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and members of the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) have had a wonderful time with children during the event to mark this year’s International Children’s Day last month.

The event highlights the importance of safeguarding children’s rights and improving their welfare. The theme of the event was “Every pikinini garem sem rait”.

In the lead up to the event, RSIPF officers and a RAPPP advisor help the event’s organizing committee with technical and advisory support.

During the actual event, the RSIPF’s Central Police Station led the parade, from the Honiara City Council car park to the China Town Multipurpose Hall, which sets to motion activities to mark the event.

RSIPF officers also ensures the parade, and activities held at the Multipurpose Hall, run smoothly by providing directions and security.

RSIPF officers and RAPPP members also ran a dedicated stall offering valuable advice on crime prevention, child safety and community engagement. They also addressed concerns and questions raised by children and parents.

Traditional and modern dance performances from local children makes the day come alive as children showcased their talents.

Members of the RAPPP’s Health Welfare and Community Engagement (HWCE) Team also hosted games and activities where they hand out gifts and giveaways.

As part of their community engagement activities, members of the RAPPP’s HWCE project and officers of the RSIPF’s National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) have been visiting communities inside and outside of Honiara to engage with community members through similar fun activities. Mostly, children dominated these activities.

The combined efforts of this year’s International Children’s Day organizing committee, RSIPF, RAPPP and the wider community has made the event a success.

The event not only bring children together but also strengthened community bonds that re-emphasized shared responsibility for all children.
