SINU Celebrates Top Achievers: “Success Comes Through Discipline and Purpose” Says Dr Katovai

The Solomon Islands National University proudly recognised 33 outstanding students during the 2026 Academic High Achievers Awards Night Ceremony.

The event held at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management on Thursday, 23 April 2026 was attended by students, families, and staff to celebrate academic excellence and hard work of students at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).

Acting Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Dr Eric Katovai welcomed guests and congratulated the top students for their outstanding achievements. He said the night was about more than just grades.

“What we celebrate is more than just academic performance. It is evidence of perseverance of students who continue to push forward, even when the journey was demanding, uncertain and challenging,” he said.

He praised the award recipients for their focus and determination.

“You have shown focus, consistency and determination, and for that you deserve this recognition,” Dr Katovai added.

He also reminded students that their success plays an important role in shaping the future of Solomon Islands. He highlighted SINU’s mission to build skills, strengthen leadership, and support the country’s social and economic development.

Dr Katovai expressed deep appreciation to parents and families for their support behind each student’s journey.

He said, “Your sacrifices and encouragement have played a vital role in shaping these successes.”

He also acknowledged the dedication of academic staff.

“Your commitment to teaching, mentoring and supporting students continues to uphold the standards and aspirations of this university,” he said.

Speaking to all students, Dr Katovai encouraged them to believe in their potential.

“Achievement is not limited to a selected few. It is built through consistency, discipline and purpose, and every student here has the potential to excel,” he said.

To the award winners, he gave a strong message of responsibility.

“Do not see tonight as an arrival, but as a beginning. The expectations on you now grow as future professionals, leaders and citizens of this country,” he said.

He encouraged them to remain humble and focused in their future journey.

“Carry your success with humility, use your knowledge with purpose. Wherever your journey takes you, remain committed to contributing meaningfully to the societies that have supported your growth,” Dr Katovai said.

In closing, he thanked the organizing committee and everyone who made the event possible.

“Your efforts ensure that we continue to celebrate success in a way that inspires others to strive for excellence,” he said.

Before ending his speech, Dr Katovai reminded students that challenges are part of life and should not discourage them.

“Life is full of challenges, and there is always a solution to every challenge we face. Keep your heads up and be positive,” he encouraged.

The ceremony ended with applause, renewed congratulations, and gratitude to students, staff, parents, and awardees for their continued contribution to SINU’s growth and success.
