TODAY, the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) hosted Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific, the Hon Pat Conroy MP to deliver a public address highlighting the many jobs, skills and growth benefits that flow from the Solomon Islands-Australia economic partnership.
“Australia is committed to helping Solomon Islands with jobs, development and the broadening of your economic base,” Minister Conroy said.
“One way is through our Pacific Australia Labour Mobility program, which to date has seen more than 7,600 people going to Australia to work in a range of industries.”
“We want to empower you – to give you the building blocks that you need to shape the future of Solomon Islands, in ways that make sense to you, in your context, for decades into the future.”
This was Minister Conroy’s second address at the University, and the sixth address in the current Australia’s Seminar Series, which provides a platform for engagement with students and the public on shared priorities.
SINU has a pivotal role to play in growing the skills of the Solomon Islands workforce.
In March 2024, Australia signed a historic 10-year Memorandum of Understanding with SINU that reflects a shared vision and commitment to supporting a world class learning program that offers a bright future to Solomon Islanders.
Minister Conroy’s address will be re-aired on local radio stations this Friday.
