High school students in the Dala North and Laugwata communities of West Kwara’ae now have access to safer, more spacious, and conducive learning environments thanks to two new classroom projects funded under the Solomon Islands–Australia Community Partnerships program.
The Dala North Community High School Classroom Project delivered three new classrooms, helping the school better accommodate its 400 enrolled students.
In Laugwata, the brand-new classroom block which contains three classrooms and an office, will benefit six highland communities with a combined population of over 3,000 residents. Before this project, students attended classes in deteriorating primary school buildings or travelled long distances at significant cost to access secondary education.

Australia has supported 342 small scale infrastructure projects and every constituency in Solomon Islands since 2019, with the projects making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of Solomon Islanders.
Australian High Commissioner Jeff Roach said “Australia is proud to support communities all across the country with life-changing small-scale community infrastructure projects, in partnership with the leaders and government of Solomon Islands.”
The High Commissioner thanked Honourable Alfred Tuasulia, Member of Parliament for West Kwara’ae constituency, for his contribution to and support of the projects.
“MPs know their communities best, so when a project attracts the support and contribution of an MP, we’re confident that project reflects the priorities of the local community themselves. When communities and local leaders lead the planning and implementation, they create outcomes that are transparent, sustainable, and make a real difference for years to come.”
The High Commissioner also noted the new classroom infrastructure would contribute to the Solomon Islands Government’s objective of increasing access to education.
“Education is an important part of the Solomon Islands-Australia partnership, and Australia is proud to work closely with the GREAT Coalition Government to support its education agenda, which is a key national priority.”
The Australian High Commission is accepting Community Partnerships applications until 24 August 2026.
