SCHOOL Teachers and students between ages 12 to 18 throughout the country are advised to get their Coronavirus (Covid-19) Vaccination.
This message is important according to Mr James Bosamata the Deputy Secretary (DS) of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), reasoning that there is already the much talked about Coronavirus transmission in the country.
Speaking during yesterday’s Covid-19 Oversight Committee Talk-Back show, Mr Bosamata said for those at Honiara, health teams will go around on which everyone must be ready for their vaccination.
For those at provinces, MEHRD’s Deputy Secretary explained that the health team will travel around, so they must get ready as well to get their vaccination because it is important to protect themselves, their family and communities.
“This goes for all Teachers and students who are in the age group of 12 to 18, we now have transmission as we have said since last two years.
“The message is very important for you Teachers and students aged 12 to 18, you must get your vaccination. Those in Honiara, health teams will come around and everyone must be ready for their vaccination.
“Those at provinces, also the health will come around, so get ready as well to get your vaccination because it is important to protect yourself, protect your family and communities,” said Bosamata.
Meanwhile, ‘indefinite closure’ of schools still stands according to MEHRD.
MEHRD’s Deputy Secretary clarified that the indefinite closure is for all the schools in the country and not only for Honiara.
“Some are confused saying it is only for schools in Honiara because it is there they are experiencing this transmission. No, this indefinite closure of schools is for all schools throughout the country,” said Bosamata.
“That is from ECE centres, primary schools, secondary schools and of course our vocational centres. So parents, schools and teachers, the indefinite closure of schools are for all institutions in the country.”
At this stage, MEHRD cannot inform when schools will open having the closure of schools being ‘indefinite’.
It is understood that parents, school students and Teachers throughout the country are anticipating on when schools will start as it is now heading into the second month of 2022.
