Training for Ward Development Committee for the three wards on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa Province has successfully ended recently.
Conducted and coordinated by officers from various divisions of the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government, the training started on Friday, July 29 and has successfully completed on Friday 5th August.
The training was conducted to equip the Ward Development Committees with the necessary knowledge on how they are to implement the mandatory roles and responsibilities to achieve the 2019 Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) policy Blueprint on participatory planning and Ward Development for Provincial Governments as stated by Ms Faith Pwe’a who is leading the team conducting the training.
She said that the training is very important for the Ward Development Committees because they will be responsible for the planning, budgeting, implementation and managing of the Ward Development Grants of their respective wards from now onwards.
“The Ward Development Committee under this blueprint will be responsible for utilising its annual Ward grant from the provincial government and is responsible to retire their Ward grants before receiving another allocation,” Ms Pwe’a said.
She assured the committees that after the training, they will assist each ward committee to open a bank account for them so that Ward grants can be deposited to each respected account.
