THE Project Officer for Ulawa Ugi constituency has denied allegations made against him through social media saying that he has sold hardware materials to constituents on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa province.

Speaking during the meeting at Suu Moli constituency built market house on Sunday 31 October, with the constituency’s Village Development Committees (VDC s) and Zone Development Committees (ZDCs) Project Officer, Mr. Eric Taorao said that he is very upset because his name and status has been tarnished in social media by some people who do not know what really is going on and then going into social media posting things they don’t even have proof of.

“I have been stepped on, my status as the Project Officer being tarnished because of the alleged claims made in the social media claiming that I  have distributed building materials under the housing scheme program to various individuals in exchange of cash given to me”, the Project Officer said.

He claimed that these allegations were not true and claimed that he is doing his role as was mandated.

“However, I want to make it clear to you all here that nothing as such has happened. Last week, I distributed roofing irons for 19 houses on Ulawa Island, two houses were given to Pirupiru CHS, and 17 others to other individuals who are yet to receive assistance under the constituency housing scheme program,” he said.

He added that the distribution of hardware materials to the Pirupiru CHS was made possible through cordial relationships established between the school’s administration and the school’s Board of Management and the constituency office.

The Project Officer further added that the distributions of the housing scheme materials were done accordingly to the lists given to him by respective Village Development Committees (VDCs) and he says that for people to say that he has sold the materials is not true and is unacceptable.

Mr. Eric said that because of this issue, he will take a break from his role as the project officer of the Ulawa Ugi constituency and advised all Zone Development Committee chairpersons to refrain from seeing him for any endorsements.
