GIZO MARKET SECURITY seized Five market Vendors who are not fully vaccinated using their relatives and friends COVID Vaccination card to access and sell their products at Gizo’s Municipal market.

Chief Security John Miriki confirms that four of them who tried to bypass the COVID protocol are women.

“I know some of them, while others when I asked for their names, they called out names not in the cards.

“We withhold the cards and asked for the owners to collect them, but they didn’t show up.”

Market Manager, Moffat Maeta said, some people are treating vaccination card as a pass, and think that they can access the market using other people’s cards.

“We don’t impose any penalty for such action, what we do is we only educate and encourage them to get vaccinated.

“So they realized that it is not allowed to transfer the card from one person to another. What I see is, the owners of cards who are fully vaccinated think that their cards can be used as a pass by anyone.

“We talked to them and educate them, and now some of them has sent their family members to the vaccination site.

“Some of them just did it out of ignorance, so we talk to them and they appreciated it.

“We don’t see this as punishment but to educate them, and direct them to the right the authority to get their jab.

“So Vaccination card is not a pass at Gizo Market,” Mr Maeta said.
