HON. Peter Shanel Agovaka, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade is part of a PIF Summit Troika Plus Mission visiting New Caledonia.
As part of their fact-finding mission, the Forum Troika Plus Leaders dedicated yesterday to an in-depth Talanoa with a range of stakeholders in New Caledonia.
The leaders began by first meeting with New Caledonian President, H.E. Louis Mapou and the Government of New Caledonia; then proceeded through to the Pacific-Community-SPC campus to meet with members of the different political parties, representatives from the Health and Private Sectors as well as the youth.
Representatives shared their perspectives on the current status of New Caledonia and their hopes for the future.
Today, the PIFS Leaders Troika Plus Mission meets with representatives of churches, the education sector and women groups. The mission also meets with mayors of the townships around New Caledonia today.
The Mission will end today with a meeting with the President of New Caledonia, the French High Commissioner for New Caledonia and the Ambassador for the Pacific. Information gathered during this high-level mission will be compiled into a comprehensive report to be presented for PIF Leaders.
The decision for a PIFS Leaders Troika Plus Mission to be deployed to New Caledonia was made at the recent 53rd PIF Leaders’ Summit in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.
The PIFS Leaders Troika Plus Mission is led by the Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni also the current chair of the PIF Leaders’ Summit. Also, part of the Mission are Hon. Mark Brown, Prime Minister of Cook Islands and outgoing Chair, Minister Shanel Agovaka, representing the Incoming Chair of the PIFS Leaders and Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, Prime Minister of Fiji.
Minister Shanel Agovaka returns on 30 October 2024, after completion of the mission.
