TEN staff members including 5 women from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services National Medical Stores (NMS) have successfully completed a specialized Forklift Dealership Equipment Training program, facilitated by the Hastings and Deering Institute of Technology.
A certified forklift trainer from Hastings and Deering travelled to the Solomon Islands to deliver the comprehensive training. This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and Hastings and Deering.
The training covered essential topics, including:
- Introduction to forklift operations
- Pre-operational and safety inspections
- Understanding machine controls and components
- Techniques and best practices for safe operation
- Post-operational inspections
Mr. Wesley Kukutu, Manager for National Medical Stores, emphasized the organization’s commitment to prioritizing health and safety for its workers.
“We are dedicated to setting warehouse standards that align with international best practices. Our Mid-Long-term goal is to achieve internationally recognized certification for National Medical Stores, ensuring we are equipped with the latest and safest warehouse operations,” Kukutu stated.
Meanwhile, this training marks a significant step towards enhancing workplace safety and operational efficiency within the National Medical Stores. The Ministry of Health and Medical Services remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote health and safety standards across all health facilities in the region.
