MORE than 1000 people on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa province have taken their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Confirming this, the data officer for the Ulawa vaccination rollout program, Ms. Phyllistus Laumae said that a total of 1,175 people have been vaccinated by the team.
“A total of 1,175 people have taken their first dose of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine during the one-week vaccination rollout program for Ulawa Island which started on the 21st and ends on the 29th of September 2021,” Ms. Laumae said.
Ms. Laumae added that a total of 14 communities were visited and a total of 100 vials of the AstraZeneca vaccine was used on Ulawa Island during the vaccination.
“The vaccination team carried out vaccination on 14 communities’ altogether around Ulawa and out of the 14 communities, a total of 100 vials of the AstraZeneca vaccine was used”, she added.
She says that out of the 100 vials used, 91 vials were fully used as each vial has 12 doses and nine vials were not completely used and they have recorded a total waste of two vials due to the fact that they do vaccination at different places in different times.
“A total of 91 vials were used completely and nine vials were not completely used because of the fact that we carry out vaccinations at different places on different times thus we have recorded a total waste of two vials out from the 100 vials used”, the data officer, Ms. Phyllistus Laumae said.
A vaccination team will again visit Ulawa on December 2021 for the second round of vaccination to those who have taken their first jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the deadly coronavirus.
