The Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA) has launched its first-ever Accounting Awards during a special Gala dinner last Friday, marking a historic moment in the profession.

The awards were the closing highlight of the 2025 ISIA Annual Congress, held from 21–22 August 2025 at the Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara.

Speaking to the media, ISIA CEO Pamela Naesol-Alamu said the awards were created to recognise individuals who have made a significant impact in shaping the accounting and finance sector in the Solomon Islands.

“This award is about giving recognition to these people because of their contributions to capacity development and to the financial system of the country. They have contributed a lot as individuals,” she said.

The ISIA Accounting Awards honour excellence in four key categories:

  • Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Award – Wayne Morris
  • Outstanding Service to the Accounting Profession Award – Baoro Laxton Koraua
  • Emerging Accountant Award – Betty Nanau
  • President’s Award for Service to the Accounting Profession – David Dennis (Auditor General) and Paula Uluinaceva (Accountant General)

According to the CEO, the awards also aim to highlight the important role accountants play in society and inspire more people to understand and appreciate the profession.

“We really want to bring out the profession of an accountant and bring it down to the communities so that people will understand this profession,” Ms Naesol-Alamu added.

The Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) proudly sponsored the 2025 ISIA Accounting Awards.

With this year marking its debut, ISIA has confirmed the Accounting Awards will now become an annual event, celebrating excellence, leadership, and innovation in the accounting field.

“These awards are here to stay,” the CEO said.
