Malo Village, Temotu Province — A youth-led savings group in Malo Village is making a positive impact on families and the wider community after successfully saving around $70,000 since June this year.

The achievement was highlighted during a share-out event held last week, which brought together community members and invited guests. The group currently has about 40 members, including children, students, single mothers, and elderly men and women.
One of the guest speakers at the event praised the initiative, describing it as a strong example of community-driven development that is improving household livelihoods and promoting financial discipline at the village level.
The savings group operates on a collective approach, encouraging regular contributions from members. Organisers say the initiative has helped families meet basic needs, support school expenses, and strengthen a culture of saving within the community.
Community leaders believe the success of the Malo Youth Savings Group demonstrates how simple, locally led initiatives can contribute to long-term resilience and social wellbeing in rural Temotu Province.
