The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) together with the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education and Skills Authority (SITESA) acknowledge the concerns raised by the Acting Leader of Opposition Hon John Dean Kuku, regarding delays in the processing of scholarships.
We acknowledge the challenges encountered which has contributed to the delay and we sincerely thank scholarship recipients and their families for their patience and understanding during this period.
We are pleased to confirm that nearly all scholarship award letters have now been issued to the successful recipients. A chartered flight has departed (Tuesfay3 March at 12:00 noon) carrying the final group of students bound for Fiji-based universities, with the remaining few scheduled to travel on commercial flights before the end of this week. Ongoing students have traveled to their study destinations through normal flights.
Some students will commence their studies in the second semester of 2026 at institutions in Fiji, Australia, and USP-SI.
The National Scholarships Division (NSD) is working closely with these groups of students to make sure they are well prepared and supported for a smooth start. At the same time, NSD is finalizing the awarding of the remaining SINU scholarships so that students can begin their studies this semester. This coordinated approach ensures that all awardees, whether starting in the first or second semester, receive the guidance they need to succeed in their academic path.
The Ministry remains committed to supporting both students and teachers in their pursuit of higher qualifications, while ensuring that policies are applied consistently and communicated clearly.
We also recognize the need to improve how scholarships are processed. Steps are being taken to strengthen efficiency and communication so that future groups of students experience a smoother transition into their studies.
This progress reflects the resilience of scholarship recipients and the determination of MEHRD and SITESA to deliver on their commitment. We remain focused on ensuring that every awardee successfully commences their academic program, confident that these scholars will contribute meaningfully to the future of the Solomon Islands.
