The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has presented new working uniforms to members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Maritime Department and Explosive Ordnance Department, recognising their vital contribution to the ongoing safety and security of Solomon Islands.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, representatives highlighted the long-standing partnership between Australia and Solomon Islands in supporting regional peace, stability and security.

The RSIPF Maritime Department and Explosive Ordnance Department play critical roles in protecting communities. Maritime officers help safeguard Solomon Islands’ borders, combat transnational organised crime and disrupt illicit activities such as drug trafficking and unregulated fishing.

Assistant Defence Advisor, Squadron Leader Brett Verity officially hands over the new working uniforms to RSIPF Maritime Director Nevol Soko and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Director Clifford Tanuki during a ceremony at Aola Wharf.

Meanwhile, Explosive Ordnance officers continue the important task of locating and safely disposing of explosive remnants of war, a legacy of the Second World War that remains a threat in many parts of the country.

The presentation of the uniforms reflects Australia’s ongoing commitment to supporting the capability and professionalism of the RSIPF.

“A uniform represents professionalism, pride and a commitment to service,”, said Assistant Defence Advisor, Squadron Leader (SQNDLR) Brett Verity.

“It symbolises the important responsibilities carried out every day by the men and women of the Maritime and Explosive Ordnance Departments, often in challenging environments and in support of the safety and security of their communities and nation.”

The Maritime Department was recognised for its dedication in protecting Solomon Islands’ waters, supporting maritime operations and helping connect communities across the archipelago.

The Explosive Ordnance Department was also acknowledged for its specialised expertise and unwavering focus on safety. The work undertaken by explosive ordnance specialists requires courage, discipline and precision, and continues to protect lives and communities across the country.

The Australian Defence Force expressed its respect and appreciation for the commitment shown by both departments and reaffirmed its ongoing partnership with Solomon Islands in supporting a safe, secure and resilient nation.

The uniform presentation serves as another example of the strong people-to-people and institutional links between Australia and Solomon Islands, built on shared values and a common commitment to security and community service
