Prime Minister (Acting), Hon. Manasseh Maelanga has extended warm greetings to New Zealand’s new High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Jonathan Schwass.
High Commissioner Jonathan Schwass made his first official visit to the Prime Minister’s Office this morning and was met by the Acting Prime Minister as Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare is currently touring East Choiseul Constituency.
Welcoming High Commissioner Schwass, the acting Prime Minister and Infrastructure Development Minister thank New Zealand for the long history of close engagement with Solomon Island.
Solomon Islands values its friendship with New Zealand and will do everything to further strengthen existing relationship, stressed acting PM Maelanga.
“The Government and people of Solomon Islands thank the government and people of New Zealand for ongoing cooperation and assistance in Infrastructure development, education, economy, health especially COVID 19 and other sectors.
His Excellency Schwass meanwhile pledges, one of his main priority is to further develop the Labour Mobility Scheme so that the RSE scheme benefits more people.
He adds, “Cooperation continue in education, youth, economic diversification, and provincial connectivity, scholarships programme and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.”
“I am keen to know SIG’s priorities. Look forward to more substantial meetings with the government. There’s more to be done. I will do all I can in my tenure in office.”
New Zealand is steadfast in supporting a stable region. A healthy diplomatic relationship is more important than ever as we continue to address the need for cooperation and cohesion across the region.
Jonathan Schwass previously served as New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Vanuatu. He has also served as Ambassador to Timor-Leste and Deputy High Commissioner to Solomon Islands.
