HON. Peter Kenilorea Jr. conducted his first official engagement as Co-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) on Friday 18 June.
He Co-Chaired the 40th plenary session alongside his Co-President Mr Carlos Zorrinho, Member of the European Parliament.
The JPA received a presentation from Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen, the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, who provided the JPA with an update on the conclusion of the Post Cotonou Negotiations, and the initialing ceremony of the new OACPS-EU partnership agreement in April of this year.
Commissioner Urpilainen also briefed the JPA on the European Union’s funding for the new partnership through the NDICI-Global Europe framework, and the Access to Vaccine strategy, carried out by the EU and its partners.
The JPA also disbursed parliamentary reports of previous meetings and engagements.
Hon. Kenilorea Jr. will be Co-Chairing the second session of the 40th ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly on Thursday 24 June, to which the (JPA) will be given an opportunity to have exchanges with the Presidencies of the EU Council, as well as the OACPS Council of Ministers, respectively.
