MATTHEW Wale, leader of the Coalition for Accountability Reform and Empowerment (CARE), has vowed to revolutionize education in the Solomon Islands.
If elected, the CARE government promises to provide free education for all Solomon Islanders from kindergarten through the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions for a generation, spanning 25 years.
The former Leader of Opposition, Wale, emphasized the critical role education plays not only in individual lives but also in the overall development of the Solomon Islands. He stressed that education is a collective responsibility that benefits the entire nation.
“As we seek to eradicate diseases like leprosy and polio from our nation, we must also strive to eliminate illiteracy.
“Under a CARE government, education will become compulsory from kindergarten to year 12, ensuring that every Solomon Islander receives a basic education,” Wale said.
Furthermore, the CARE government aims to prioritize STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, recognizing its significance in shaping the future workforce and driving economic growth over the next four decades.
“This initiative is not just about providing free education; it’s about investing in our future and preparing our youth for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow,” Wale affirmed. “Because we care.”
The CARE government, a partnership between the Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP), led by Matthew Wale, and the Democratic Alliance Party (DAP), led by Rick Hou, aims to bring about transformative change in education and beyond.
“Just as we seek to stump out polio and leprosy totally from the Solomon Islands, a caring government pledges to eradicate illiteracy from the Solomon Islands,” Wale said.
This announcement has sparked widespread optimism and enthusiasm across the Solomon Islands, with many lauding the coalition’s commitment to education accessibility and national development.
As the election approaches, the promise of free education stands as a cornerstone of the CARE government’s vision for a brighter future for all Solomon Islanders.
