The Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Rod Hilton has announced the launch of 50 new projects under the Solomon Islands – Australia Community Partnerships.
The 50 new projects represent more than SBD 11 million in direct funding to Solomon Islands’ businesses and communities.
Australia chooses Solomon Islands’ businesses to supply these projects, to create local jobs, which deliver more benefits to Solomon Islands families.
The 50 new projects span across the country, and include the installation of solar powered streetlights, the construction of new classrooms, upgrades to rural health clinics, and the provision of community water tanks.
Over the lifetime of this program, Australia has now funded Community Partnerships projects in every province and every constituency of Solomon Islands.
High Commissioner Hilton said the projects reflect the strong and growing partnership between Australia and Solomon Islands.
“These initiatives will deliver practical benefits to communities, while also supporting local businesses and jobs”, High Commissioner Hilton said.
“Australia is pleased to work in partnership with Solomon Islands Members of Parliament to deliver projects in their constituencies.”
Prime Minister, Hon Jeremiah Manele, attended the Awards Night to launch the fifty new projects.
“These small-scale infrastructure investments are meaningful and life-changing for many of our people, especially those in rural and remote areas,” Prime Minister Manele said.
Australia is the partner Solomon Islands can rely on to work alongside Solomon Islanders to improve lives, strengthen local infrastructure and build resilient communities across the country.
