AS Solomon Islands’ number one economic partner, Australia has announced the provision of an additional SBD22 million in budget support to the Solomon Islands Government, bringing the total of Australia’s general budget support for 2024 to around SBD82 million.
A direct funding agreement was signed on Thursday 28 November by the Minister for Finance and Treasury, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, and the Acting Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Andrew Schloeffel.
During the event, Minister Sogavare expressed his gratitude, saying “We thank the people of Australia for this great assistance.”
“Thank you for recognising our efforts to advance critical reforms that are important for our economic growth and development.”
Acting High Commissioner Schloeffel said Australia is pleased to provide this assistance and to support the Solomon Island Government’s economic priorities.
“These funds will help the Solomon Islands Government to deliver services and make investments that will help to grow the economy.”
This is the third budget support payment Australia has made to Solomon Islands in 2024 highlighting the strong and enduring economic partnership between the two countries.
Australia’s budget support for Solomon Islands is aimed at growing the economy, supporting health and education service delivery, and enhancing public financial management. Australia has provided Solomon Islands with over SBD1.1 billion in budget support since 2019.
