The Solomon Islands Customs and Excise Division (SICED) seized 1.28 kilograms of the drug Methamphetamine (often referred to as ‘Crystal Meth’ or ‘Ice’) sent through posted mail at the Honiara General Post Office on the 20th of April 2026.
Customs were alerted to the possible Importation of an Illegal substance sent from the United States and promptly identified and X-ray scanned two parcels. Upon examination, the parcels were found to contain the extremely dangerous drug packaged within multiple layers of vacuum-wrapped plastic bags. The product was tested, and initial analyses presumed positive for methamphetamine.
At the request of Customs, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Forensics Unit undertook further presumptive testing, with the same outcome being Methamphetamine. Upon confirmation, all drugs and packaging were transferred to the custody of the RSIPF for secure storage as evidence.

As reported by the RSIPF, a person was arrested and charged for the importation of a prohibited substance. This seizure is considered significant in that the quantity far exceeds previous methamphetamine detections at the Honiara Post Office and International Airport. Methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous and addictive drug that speeds up the body’s central nervous system with the real potential to kill people by overdose; and a seizure of this volume represents an increasing concern for the overall safety of the citizens and residents of the Solomon Islands.
The Solomon Islands Customs and Excise Division along with our partner border agencies and the RSIPF, is committed to protecting our society and urges any person with information related to the importation of such dangerous drugs to contact us so that our dedicated officers can take action to make the necessary interceptions.
The suspect has been charged later by the RSIPF for importation and exportation of certain substances prohibited contrary to section 14 of the Dangerous Drug Act.
