CORRECTIONAL Service Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi and Adviser Anthony Maelasi attended the ACOM 16th General Synod, which took place at Transfiguration Chapel Selwyn College on Friday 19th November 2021.
Commissioner Manelusi was there to inform the General Synod official members of the roles of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands and Update the challenges and progress of CSSI during COVID-19, highlight the role of the church as well as to generate thoughts to help prevent breaking of the law and to help rehabilitate inmates as they are about to go back in their communities.
During his presentation, Manelusi stand on behalf of the Honorable Minister of MPNSCS and his Executive members to acknowledge the ACOM Archbishop, Senior Bishop, and Council of Bishops and its members for their support and prayers in 2021 and look forward for the same support and prayers will continue in 2022.
As part of the presentation, Manelusi highlighted the National Peacebuilding, Prevention & Rehabilitation framework, Change of focus and Philosophy, Brief of Rehabilitation, Corrections Infrastructure Capabilities, Corrections Convicts & Remands, Corrections Inmates & Occupancies, Inmates & Provincial Status, inmates Religious Affiliation, Proposed Peacebuilding, Prevention Rehabilitation Structure, TOR and Composition of Members of the Board and the Way forward.
A prominent Mother Union leader acknowledged Commissioner Manelusi for granting the approval for Mothers Union’s vision to facilitate rehabilitation programs for inmates at RCCC.
In response to Commissioner’s presentation, ACOM officials and the Mission Secretary expressed their appreciation and openness to pursue partnership and collaborative actions as part of the rehabilitation of ACOM inmates in the RCCC.
