MINISTER of Education and Human Resources Development, Hon. Lanelle Tanangada has emphasized the importance of working together during the launch of the Solomon Islands National University Strategic Plan 2021 – 2025.
She used her speech to make a rallying call about education; focusing on how the importance of investment and partnership in the country.
Hon. Lanelle noted that the reality of the current economic situation in the country has resulted in constraints in all areas of public expenditure.
“The current financing of our university has exacerbated the situation further, which inevitably has impeded the learning opportunities of a considerable increase in student numbers recently, who are unable to pay their tuition and boarding fees to Solomon Islands National University’s (SINU),” Hon. Mrs. Tanangada told attendees attending the event at the SINU’s School of Tourism, Kukum Campus.
She said that she fully recognizes the challenging environment that the higher education sector in the country has had to operate in, not only in recent years but also in years ahead of us.
“Despite the financial challenges our country faces today, I confirm the Government’s commitment and support to helping you achieve the vision of our national university.
Meanwhile, in his address during the launching event, Vice-Chancellor Acting, Dr. Jack Maebuta said the Strategic Plan launched is the end product of a very considered process that ultimately involved stakeholders.
“It involves, considering the growing body of research evidence that indicates that the educational landscape is shifting to accommodate the demands of modern life,” he said.
Dr. Maebuta highlighted that the programs of SINU as enshrined in the strategic plan and the learner profile provided an opportunity to explore a humanistic and holistic education.
