GOVERNMENT has identified a suitable place for the new government cemetery ground and the land is owned by the state as well.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare revealed this in his national address today, while also acknowledging that we will likely to see the increase of number of deaths relating to COVID- 19.
Prime Minister Sogavare said a committee has been set up to deal with the matter and the committee comprised of officials from Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Lands, Honiara City Council, Guadalcanal Province, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and with support from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
He confirmed that the committee will conclude discussion with landowners by tomorrow and later this week the new government cemetery should become operational.
Deaths related to COVID- 19 now stands at 32, however this number does not take into account those who have died at the Provinces.
