THE Foubaba Community High School in West Kwaio recently held its Graduation Ceremony with a strong reminder to parents and teachers that both have a great deal of influence on a child’s education.
Paul Remigio, the school chairman who made the call, said that the great responsibility of shaping a child lies in the hands of parents, and teachers.
“We see that the role of molding children does not only fall on one individual but it is the combined influence of parents, and teachers. Therefore, both need to work together to shape the path of a child in education.
“I know that when parents and teachers put in extra effort to mold a child, it’s not that easy but it will have an impact on them for life.
“If parents and teachers neglect their responsibilities of molding children, it will impact them negatively since shaping the lives of children is like shaping the future.
“Teachers shape the future with the knowledge and experiences they teach to their students. That is a great responsibility, and it also comes with a demand for accountability.
“However, our school alone can never be solely responsible for the outcomes that our students achieve.
“Therefore, the values of our country’s future generations are in the hands of parents, and teachers.
“When parents and teachers unite to work on solutions to address issues it becomes a win-win for all students,” said Paul.
He pointed out that a balance between education at home and school formed the student’s actual learning process.
Paul said that homeschooling had played a crucial role in the performances of students, adding that children’s learning curve and ability are highly related to how they were taught at home.
“For that matter, it is important for parents to be role models of their children and also to create a favorable learning atmosphere at home.
“Parents must not to over-burden their children with household tasks, but observe them in their activities and criticize them constructively,” the school chairman said.
