The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC), in collaboration with key government partners, has commenced a four-day Structural and Functional Review Finalizations Workshop from 11–14 August 2025 at the DD Inn Conference Venue.
This important workshop follows the initial review sessions held earlier this year and the mid-term review conducted from 1–7 August 2025. It marks a critical step in aligning SIEC’s organizational structure and functions with the Strategic Plan 2024–2028, launched on 25 August 2025, and the Government’s 100 Days Policy.
The workshop brings together technical representatives from the Ministry of Public Service (MPS) and Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MOFT) and the SIEC to:
- Finalize the organizational and functional structure for the Joint Elections 2028.
- Confirm the establishment for 2026.
- Determine position levels and costings for the SIEC structure.
- Prepare the Cabinet Paper on the review for submission for cabinet deliberation.
Once completed, the Cabinet Paper will be presented to the Commission and to Cabinet per establish process on ensuring that the necessary reforms are endorsed ahead of the next budget cycle.
Speaking at the opening, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Ms. Christina Joanna Mitini highlighted the urgency and significance of the review;
“This process is vital to strengthening the Commission’s capacity, ensuring that our organizational structure and resources are optimally aligned to deliver credible elections in 2028.”
The outcomes of this workshop will guide SIEC’s institutional strengthening over the next three years, supporting efficient delivery of its mandate and enhancing electoral services for the people of Solomon Islands.
